Three Good Things

Three Good Things

Before you go to bed each night, have a think back over your day, and recall three good things that happened. These can be three things that went well, you enjoyed, or were grateful for. They can be small or large, insignificant or profound, you get to choose. You’ll probably find it varies from day to day. To start do this every day for 1 week, making sure you write them down. Also include why it happened, and why you feel good about it. After a week look back over your entries and see how they make you feel. If you are enjoying the process or feel benefit continue for another couple of weeks. After a while you may find you don’t need to do it every night, maybe just once or twice a week. You should also find your mind becomes more attuned to noticing things you are grateful for during the day too, thereby increasing your positive emotions.

Research shows doing this exercise either every night for 3 weeks or once a week for 10 weeks has a positive effect on your wellbeing. Unusually, it is important not to overdo it as our minds adapt to the new routine and the benefits decrease. Don’t let it become a chore, but a routine you enjoy doing. #iThriveTips
